May 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2015 - Halifax County Beekeepers Association Display at the 2015 Halifax County Heritage & Antique Machinery Festival
Our booth was stocked with heritage beekeeping equipment from years gone by, a supply of honey and honey products, and a live Virginia honey bee observation hive. Volunteers from the organization staffed the booth all three days and were kept very busy answering bee questions from young and old, helping find the queen bee in the observation hive, and selling local honey.
March 14, 2015 - Halifax Soil And Water Department Conservation Camp
At Edmonds Park the Halifax County Beekeepers Association organized and provided several 20 minute teaching sessions for 120 participating Halifax County 7th graders in attendance. We were one of several stations discussing Conservation Practices that should be followed to recover and preserve a strong natural environment. Of course, the beekeeper sessions stressed the importance of all of our pollinator contributions to the food supply and specifically the value of honeybees with crop pollination. Both the 7th grade students and our beekeeper leaders truly enjoyed a great educational event. The Halifax County Beekeepers Association also provided a honeystraw to each attendee student and teacher.
